Situated along the scenic waterfront, this center occupies repurposed military buildings within the larger Fort Mason complex, a former U.S. Army post. The center is dedicated to fostering a creative community and provides a dynamic space for artists, performers, and cultural organizations to showcase their work.

The campus features galleries, theaters, and performance spaces, including the renowned Herbst Pavilion and Cowell Theater. Throughout the year, it hosts a variety of events, from art exhibitions and live performances to festivals, classes, and workshops. Fort Mason Center emphasizes diversity in the arts, with programming that reflects a broad spectrum of cultural, social, and environmental themes.
