Hi Everyone, Wesley Nishinaka from Centenary UMC in Little Tokyo. Our Little Tokyo Dance Club has been asked to demonstrate Public Odori/Ondo dancing at our sister church West Los AngelesUnited Methodist Church located at 1913 Purdue Ave. LA 90025 during their Asian Cultural Bazaar on Saturday September 19th. What better way to demonstrate Public Odori/Ondo than to invite others to join.

Click this link for more detail information on event: 11am - 5pm

Date
Sept 19, 2015

Centenary in Little Tokyo is known for the 3 Public Odori/Ondo dances we do annually.
1) Our Arigato Bazaar in May
2) The Little Tokyo Summer Open House in July
3) Very popular Little Tokyo Halloween Costume Odori/Ondo Dance Party held at the end of October.

We are "Obon Hoppers" enthusiast that visit obons from San Diego to San Jose. We are Nisei Week parade dancers and volunteers with the Nisei Week Closing Ceremony and Street Ondo. This time we are "taking our show on the road" and calling this event "ANOTHER CHANCE TO DANCE" Last year at the West LA UMC Bazaar we "Flash Mobbed" Shiawase Samba to Michael Jackson's "Rock with you." Then we danced Kyushu Tanko Bushi and Sakura Ondo. I guess they liked it because we were invited back to do a "demo." Dancing is planned for 2:30 pm so come early to save a spot. Now I have to admit this will be like no other dance event you have ever been. If you are a public Odori/Ondo dance pro or you have no idea what "Japanese Festival Dancing" is all about, this is the one to come to.

For the Odori/Ondo dance enthusiast this is "another chance to dance." For the beginner, this event will be a demonstration in "spirit, culture and community" the reason why we dance Odori/Ondo in public. I suggest you bring your own chairs to sit because seating is very limited at this event. We will have one "fan dance" so if you bring a uchiwa that would be great, if not we will have plenty on hand to lend. Not planning a Kachi Kachi or towel dance so it is OK to leave them at home. Come dressed in Yukata, Jinbei, temple or organization Hapi or just as you are, this is guaranteed to be a festive event. Dance playlist will include traditional favorites as well as Odori/Ondo to modern Pop music.

If you have any questions in regards to the public Odori/Ondo Dancing please contact me at [email protected] or 213 359-7755. Come to watch or come to dance. Come in the spirit of culture and community. See everyone on Saturday September 19th at 2:30pm.
