Learn about Obon traditions in Okinawa AND join us in Hawaii-style Okinawan Bon dancing!

Still in the Obon Festival mood? The Okinawa Association of America (OAA) invites you to a special lecture and Bon Odori onAugust 29th, 2PM, at the OAA Center in Gardena. This event is part of an ongoing series of educational/cultural programs at the OAA and will focus on Obon traditions in Okinawa.
A Skype video lecture will be presented by members of Ukwanshin Kabudan, a Ryukyuan performing arts troupe based in Hawai`i. Collin Hoo, a young OAA member who studied in Okinawa for one year, will share his Obon experiences and pictures. The event will conclude with Hawai`i-style Okinawan Bon dancing, which features 7 unique choreographies and live music by Afuso Ryu Kenkyuu Choichi Kai Los Angeles! We encourage everybody to dance with us, so bring your happi coats and folding fans!
General admission is $5 (free for current OAA members) and proceeds will go toward educational/cultural programming at the OAA. RSVP REQUIRED due to limited seating and parking. Snacks and refreshments will be served. The OAA Center is located at 16500 South Western Avenue, Gardena 90247.
