Kotobuki No Kai is a traditional Japanese Minyo (folk) dance group. We are the Los Angeles Headquarters for Nippon Minyo Kenkyu Kai based in NagoyaJapan. Nippon Minyo Kenkyu Kai is considered one of the largest Minyo dance groups.

Our minyo dance group is based in Little Tokyo at Centenary UMC located at 300 S. Central Ave. (Central Ave. / 3rd Street) in Downtown Los Angeles.

Minyo Odori or Japanese Folk Dance is performed in the classical Minyo as well as the Shin or "new" Minyo style. Our dance group also performs Kayo Buyo or dance accompanied by Popular Songs. Many of the folk dances relate to work or specific trades such as fishing, picking tea, working in the fields, etc.

We welcome you to attend our free 4 hour workshop on Saturday April 25, 2015 and experience the beauty of minyo music and dance. Come share with us the spirit of culture and art as our group demonstrates and teaches minyo odori. The workshop begins at 10 am and ends with a free lunch fellowship (lunch is at 1 pm and the workshop ends at 2 pm.)

No prior dance experience necessary to participate in the workshop. The workshop is for all ages and all genders. This workshop is designed for children to seniors, boys, girls, women and men. Due to limited workshop size pre registration is required.

For workshop registration please contact Wesley Nishinaka at (213) 359-7755 or email to wnishinaka@aol.com. You may contact Centenary UMC at (213) 617-9097. All the information we need is your name, contact information (telephone number and email.) If registering for multiple people only one main contact person is required but please let us know how many in the group, approximate ages of each person and gender. As mentioned before workshop size is limited so please contact us as soon as possible so space/spaces can be reserved. For any other inquiries in regards to the group please contact us through our website at www.kotobukinokai.com or telephone John Fujinami at 323-788-1406.
