San Francisco's Japantown is gearing up for a full-scale salute to the King of the Monsters with Godzilla's Seven Decades, a community wide celebration produced by the Japantown Community Benefit District. The event spans two weekends on December 6 and 7 and again on December 13 and 14 with art, screenings and activities across the neighborhood.

Godzilla Through Our Eyes: 7 Decades of the King Exhibit
The "Godzilla Through Our Eyes" exhibit gathers work from seven Japantown community artists who present unique takes on the cinematic icon that is Godzilla. Visitors can explore a timeline of film history and vintage movie posters inside the NEW PEOPLE SuperFrog Gallery at 1746 Post Street on the third floor. The exhibit runs December 6 & 7 and 13 & 14 from Noon to 5 pm, featuring seven contemporary interpretations of Godzilla, a 7 Decades historical exhibit and posters from 1954 - 2024.
Free Outdoor Screening of "Shin Godzilla"
Fans can bring chairs and blankets for a free outdoor showing of Shin Godzilla under the Japantown Trellis Gate on Osaka Way. The screening begins on Saturday, December 6 at 6:45 pm, offering a chance to experience a modern classic in an open air setting.
Godzilla 7 Decades Exhibit Display
From December 6 - 14, a special Godzilla 7 Decades exhibit display will be featured inside the Japan Center East Mall, giving visitors another way to explore the monster's long legacy.
Godzilla 7 Decades Stamp Rally
Guests who spend one hundred dollars or more at Japantown shops in a single day between December 6 - 14 can bring receipts to the 3 Pillars art and gift store to receive a stamped postcard, stickers and a chance to win Godzilla themed rewards. The rally highlights local businesses and encourages visitors to explore shops throughout the district.
Plaque Walkway Traces Seven Decades of Movie History
A series of newly installed plaques will guide visitors from the east side of Japantown to the west, with each plaque presenting a short essay that highlights a different era in Godzilla's long history. The walkway functions as a timeline, giving fans an easy way to trace seven decades of kaiju lore during the celebration.
Murals and Monster Sounds Fill the Japan Center East Mall
Two Godzilla murals wait inside the Japan Center East Mall for fans seeking photo opportunities. From Noon to 6 pm during both weekends, visitors approaching the mall may also hear familiar roars and footsteps as part of the celebration atmosphere.
The event is supported by partners including New People Inc., Japan Center Malls, Japan Center Garage, Japantown Merchants Association, Kinokuniya Bookstores of America, Toho International, Hotel Kabuki, the Enso Hotel and 3 Pillars. Special appreciation is given to Toho International for providing historical content and their continued partnership with Japantown.
