On February 28th, 10AM - 12PM, the Okinawa Association of America (OAA) will host a free screening of Chie Mikami's documentary "The Targeted Village" at the OAA Center in Gardena. The 91-minute film focuses on the residents of Takae district (Higashi Village, northern Okinawa), their protests against the construction of U.S. military helipads, and the Japanese government's attempt to silence them. The film's bold title is influenced by Takae's history with the U.S. military, which saw their land used as a mock target in warfare training during the Vietnam War. This screening will provide English subtitles.

Please note that admission is not guaranteed due to extremely limited seating and parking. The screening will be held at the OAA Center's Yamauchi Building, 10AM - 12PM, 16500 S. Western Ave., Gardena 90247. More information: 310-532-1929.

This event is made possible by The Targeted Village Showing Steering Committee with fundraising efforts by Eclipse Rising, Japan Multicultural Relief Fund, Japan Pacific Resource Network, and Women for Genuine Security. Disclaimer: This documentary focuses on the controversial U.S. military base issues in Okinawa. Though political in nature, this event is strictly for educational purposes.
