On New Year's morning in Japan, people all over the country rise at dawn and make their way to a nearby shrine to pray for success and happiness in the year to come. New Year's- O-Shogatsu-is the single most important festival of the year and is regarded as a chance to make a fresh start. In honor of its 50th anniversary year, the Garden will open for members on New Year's Day. Spend the first day of the year walking the Garden's paths and reflecting on all that has brought us here together.
The Pavilion will be open with a special display that includes historical photographs by the late Robbie Robinson, who worked with Professor Takuma Tono, the original Garden designer in the 1960s, and continued to give of his time and talent over the years. Complimentary hot tea will help take the chill off the crisp January weather. Join us as we celebrate the treasure of the Garden and welcome the next fifty years!
