Punxsutawney is one of the most famous small towns in America thanks to a furry little guy named Punxsutawney Phil. Every year on Groundhog Day (February 2), thousands of people make the trek to Gobbler's Knob to hear Punxsutawney Phil's prediction for the length of winter. If he sees his shadow when he emerges from his burrow there will be six more weeks of winter weather; no shadow foretells an early spring. For more information about the legend of Punxsutawney Phil, visit the official web site of the Groundhog Club (Phil's caretakers) www.groundhog.org. Click here.

The 1993 movie Groundhog Day starred Bill Murray as weatherman Phil Conners. Phil is sent to Punxsutawney to cover Groundhog Day and finds himself the victim of a horrible fate - he is trapped in the town, unable to leave. By the end of the movie, Conners comes to love the charm of the community and ponders making it his home. We feel sure that when you visit Punxsutawney, you too will come to appreciate our small town charm and friendliness, even if you're not 'stranded' here like Phil Conners!
