The iconic cherry trees that line the main quad at Washington University in St. Louis are one of the most beautiful sights each spring. As the cherry blossoms reach peak bloom, the entire quadrangle is transformed into a stunning vision of pink and white flowers. The blossoms create an ethereal canopy over the brick pathways that crisscross the grassy quad. Students can be seen studying on blankets beneath the flowering cherry trees or taking photos amid the floral splendor. The cherry trees are well over 100 years old, having been planted in the early 1900s, and their annual blossoming has become an anticipated rite of spring on campus.

The cherry blossoms typically remain in peak bloom for only about 1-2 weeks, making it a fleeting but magnificent spectacle. The university even has a cherry blossom webcam set up so alumni and others can view the blossoms remotely when they are at their most vibrant. Catching the cherry trees at full bloom on the Washington University quad is a quintessential experience for students, faculty, staff and visitors alike. It encapsulates the beauty and tradition of the historic Midwestern campus during one of the most pleasant times of the year in St. Louis.
