EXIT the shop at Catharine Clark Gallery is hosting a series of holiday markets throughout the months of November and December. This live print demonstration will focus on Mokuhanga, a traditional Japanese woodblock printing technique that uses water-based inks.

The event will run from 1:00 to 3:00pm, with the demonstration beginning at 2:00 and concluding at 2:35, followed by a Q&A session.

In this short form demonstration, attendees will learn the basics of this non-toxic process including: carving Shina plywood with Japanese hand tools, the kento registration system, inking the blocks with water-based pigments and traditional brushes, and printing the block by hand with a Japanese baren. Attendees will also learn about the materials, history, and contemporary applications of this versatile process.

The event is free and open to the public but please be sure to RSVP!
