Presented by the Asian American Drug Abuse Program (AADAP) AADAP will be bringing back their popular Benefit Concert event to Little Tokyo with the legendary Kalapana, performing their timeless hits through an unmatched live experience. Band members include holdover members Kenji Sano (bass/vocals) and Gaylord Holomalia (keys), joined by Garin Poliahu (drums), Alden Levi (vocals/guitar), Shawn Pimental (vocals), Sean Thibadeaux (guitar), Jorden Kealoha-Yamanaka (vocals), and Todd Yukimoto (saxophone/flute). They will be joined by special guest Michael Paulo, a world-renowned Jazz saxophonist. With this new lineup, Kalapana will bring fresh energy to its classic and timeless hits. Join us for an evening of live music, a silent auction, a dessert reception, and more! All the proceeds will support AADAP's core recovery programs to help serve the diverse communities of Los Angeles.
Kalapana emerged as one of the most popular bands on the Hawaiian music scene in the 70s, producing a steady stream of hits. Their 1975 debut album was hailed as one of the best of the mid-70s Hawaiian Renaissance. Tracks like “Nightbird,” “The Hurt,” “You Make It Hard,” and “When the Morning Comes” became household tunes and are still frequently played on contemporary Hawaiian radio. Musical trends have come and gone, but Kalapana’s hits have remained Island classics.
