Here is how you can participate in our stage program and show off your dance moves!
Japan Day Original Bonodori "New York Ondo" Workshop (FREE!) on May 6th (Monday) & May 9th (Thursday)!

A very special Bon Odori dance called THE NEW YORK ONDO was created by Momo Suzuki, the founder of the Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York, as Japan Day original Bon Odori in 2010, and it is returning to our Stage Program this year! The New York Ondo is based on the traditional Bon Odori dance, which celebrates life. Different styles of Bon Odori are often seen at summer Bon Festivals in Japan. While using the traditional spirit and movements of the Bon Odori dance, The New York Ondo celebrates the four seasons in a way that is uniquely New York. Plus, at the end, it features a English verse singing about Japan Day. We encourage everyone to join the dance at Japan Day - and you can start learning The New York Ondo ahead by participating in the FREE The New York Ondo Work Shop!!
