TAKAMINE ~ A Japanese man who brought cherry blossom to the u.s.

U.S. Premiere! (in Japanese w/English Subtitles)

Synopsis
A successful Japanese chemist, Junichi Takamine, made a great contribution for planting cherry trees in Washington DC more than ten decades ago. He was living in the USA and asprired to build a great cultural bridge between Japan and the US. In the early 1900s, Takamine met Mrs. Eliza Ruhamah Scidmore, a writer, a photgrapher and geographer. She was traveled to Japan for many times and had been fasclinated by beauty of cherry blossom trees. Her fascination gave her a mision, to bring the cherry blossom trees to the USA. Eventually, a fortulitous encounter brought Takamine and Scidmore together in Washington DC, and Takamine's personal founds made it possible to plant the trees by the Potomac River in D.C. in 1912. 2010 will mark the 100th anniversary of the original plantings of the cherry trees.
