This authentic Japanese dance festival takes place on Water Street, beside Capital Lake and close to Puget Sound.ï¿½ While the historical and religious origins of the festival are acknowledged,ï¿½ the Olympia Bon Odori is held in the spirit of a secular matsuri or city celebration.

The Olympia-Kato Sister City Association is the sponsor of this event.ï¿½ The association works closely with the Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation, which holds a public Lantern Floating for Peace that serenely closes the festival.ï¿½ Volunteer assistance with planning, publicity, site set-up, food preparation, event staffing, and lantern retrieval is always appreciated.
