Every September, Honokaʻa town comes alive for the annual Peace Day Parade and Festival, celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace. This year’s Peace Day Parade will take place on Saturday, September 20, stepping off at 11:00 am. The Peace Day Festival will follow, running from noon to 4:00 pm in downtown Honokaʻa on Mamane Street, between Kika Street and Lehua Street.

With a focus on peace and the many ways we strive for a more peaceful world, the day’s schedule will feature musicians, drummers, dancers, young artists, churches, and community groups sharing their culture. Visitors can look forward to both meaningful and fun performances and displays throughout the afternoon.

The first performance will be by the Honokaʻa High School Jazz Band, part of the school’s Grammy Award-winning program led by Gary Washburn. This year’s festival will feature three performance stages.

Parade entries and festival booth vendors are welcome to apply. Performers and groups are encouraged to visit the Peace Day website at www.peacedayparade.org to download applications and participation details.

The Peace Day Parade and Festival is organized and produced by the Peace Committee of Honokaʻa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, with support from the County of Hawaiʻi, the Committee on Social Concerns of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaiʻi, and the Honokaʻa Business Association.
