About Kodomo no Hi
Originally, Kodomo no Hi was called Tango no Sekku (Boys' Festival) and was primarily focused on celebrating the health and happiness of boys. However, it was renamed Kodomo no Hi in 1948 to include all children and to promote gender equality.

During Kodomo no Hi, families raise large carp-shaped flags, known as koinobori, outside their homes. These flags represent the wish for children to grow up strong and healthy, just like the carp that swim upstream against strong currents. Families also display samurai dolls and armor, symbolizing strength and bravery, and enjoy traditional foods like chimaki (rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves) and kashiwa-mochi (rice cakes filled with sweet bean paste and wrapped in oak leaves).

Kodomo no Hi is a time for families to come together to celebrate and honor children, wishing them success and prosperity in the future.
