Exhibition Overview
NHK, Japan’s public broadcasting entity, marks its centennial with NEO-JAPONISM, a multi-faceted initiative exploring the intersection of culture and technology. NEO-JAPONISM | SAMURAI AND BEYOND presents NHK’s groundbreaking use of 3D computer graphics (3DCG) and interactive media in its acclaimed Taiga dramas, bringing samurai-era Japan and other historical periods to life.

This exhibition includes
• Samurai Culture & Artifacts: Featuring 3DCG representations of samurai armor (Dōmaru), historical castles, and warlord attire from NHK’s dramas.
• Edo-Period Masterpieces: High-resolution digital scans of artworks by Ito Jakuchū and Tsutaya Jūzaburō, providing an intimate view of traditional Japanese painting and woodblock printing.
• Historical Architecture & Artifacts: 3DCG renderings of Chūson-ji Temple’s Golden Hall (Konjikidō) and Jōmon period dogū figurines, allowing visitors to explore these cultural treasures from unique perspectives.
• NHK’s Role in Cultural Preservation: Behind-the-scenes insights into NHK’s visual storytelling and technological innovations used in their historical dramas and documentaries.
