2020 is the 5th anniversary of Sawtelle Japantown. Join us at the 3rd annual grassroot Sawtelle Japantown Birthday Bash Celebration from 1pm to 3pm at Nora Sterry Elementary School for a “Ice Cream and Cake” Birthday Bash to celebrate the spirit, culture, community and legacy of Sawtelle Japantown.

Description
1:00 pm - the event will kick off with the Venice Boy Scouts of America Troop 764 presenting colors followed by entertainment, refreshments and door prizes donated from the many supporters, businesses, friends of Sawtelle Japantown.

2:00 pm - the celebration will have a public Ondo lead by the Little Tokyo Dance Club featuring Ryujin Taiko. More door prizes during and after the ondo.

3:00 pm - “Voices” from Sawtelle Japantown - Spirit, Culture, Community, Legacy. Listen to Bill Watanabe, founding Executive Director of the Little Tokyo Service Center CDC (Retired) and Rose Honda of Sawtelle Japantown speak to the spirit, culture, community and legacy of Sawtelle Japantown past, present and future. There will be a Q & A and more door prizes during this portion of the event.

*Please be advised, the event is being held on LAUSD property, LAUSD prohibits pets and smoking on school campus. Use of these school premises has been granted pursuant to the provisions of Sections 17400, et seq., of the Education Code of the State of California to Nora Sterry Booster Club from the Board of Education of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The Board of Education does not sponsor or take responsibility, nor does it necessarily endorse any of the activities, statements, or opinions which may be expressed at this meeting or activity.

Other events happening prior to the Birthday Bash and “Voices” include a Neighborhood Flash Clean from 9am to 10am (check-in at 8:30am)starting at Nijiya Market located at 2130 Sawtelle Blvd. (at Olympic Blvd.) Take pride and join us for the 3rd annual SJC 2020 Neighborhood Flash Clean to mark the 5th anniversary of Sawtelle Japantown and beautify the community. Wear shoes and dress comfortably. Tools and supplies will be provided. Community service credit is available for students. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Venice BSA Troop 764 will join the Flash Clean. *FREE PARKING AT THE TRIDENT CENTER (11355 W. OLYMPIC BLVD.) FROM 8:15 AM - 10:30 AM. ENTER ON CORINTH AVE. From 10:30am - 11:00am Special Tuna Cutting Demonstration at Nijiya Market, 2130 Sawtelle Blvd. (at Olympic Blvd.) Witness the fine art of tuna cutting in a special demonstration and sample tasting to honor the 5th anniversary of Sawtelle Japantown.

Sawtelle Japantown Celebration 2020 Merchant Promotions Saturday, February 15 - Sunday, March 1, 2020. Look for Sawtelle Japantown Celebration’s 3rd annual Merchant Promotions. FLYERS ARE MANDATORY. Ask for the “SJC 2020 Special” at participating merchants that display the SJC 2020 logo/flyer. Flyers are available at Nijiya and Marukai Markets and participating merchants.
