"Enter the Stream, Genie Nakano's new work of haibun and tanka tales, is an autobiographical journey, each poem revealing a different memory, a different stage in life. From East LA to a palm oasis, from childhood to adulthood, the reader is drawn into Genie's world. We sigh in disappointment when Genie's Odori career is sacrificed for a cigarette, and treasure the glimpse of her grandmother's kimono captured in both poem and photograph. We all wish her a pony for Christmas.
"Nakano skillfully weaves multiple senses in her poetry, further drawing the reader into each poem with the sound of a cough, the hiss of an intubator, the feeling of silk flowers and silver hair decorations, or the smell of lavender and mothballs."
-Deborah P Kolodji (Moderator, Southern California Haiku Study Group)
