Map of The Japanese Garden (Suiho-En), Van Nuys, 6100 Woodley Ave.

The Japanese Garden in Van Nuys welcomes visitors to one of the most notable Japanese gardens in America. A peaceful oasis in the midst of the busy San Fernando Valley,Suiho-enor "Garden of Water and Fragrance" is a six and a half acre cultural showplace created by world-renowned art and architecture historian, Dr. Koichi Kawana.

Our volunteer program offers a wide selection of opportunities to serve the Garden and its mission. Volunteers may elect to be a part of one or more of the categories below:

Docents: On weekday mornings, our team of Docents lead tours which inform the public about the Garden and water reclamation process.

Gift Shop:Our gift shop is operated solely by volunteers and we need motivated staff for weekdays, and especially for Sunday shifts. Previous sales experience is helpful, but not necessary.

Tea Service:Garden volunteers provide a Tea Service (tea and cookies) to the public for a small fee at special events and, generally, on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.

Special Events:The Garden is a wonderful location for cultural events, civic gatherings and other special events. Volunteers are needed for all areas of the program and this is a perfect volunteer opportunity for someone with a busy schedule.

Please contact us by phone or email and tell us about your interests and experience. Please note: This volunteer opportunity is not appropriate for students or other individuals seeking community service hours.
