What better way start fall off than with some lovely shinobue music? Join us for our September Japanese bamboo flute course. You will learn correct posture, breath control, and fingering. Learn your first song. We provide fingering charts, music, and videos on class material. Advance into the 2nd octave and beyond!

Shinobue means "bamboo flute". Shinobue is used in many Japanese traditional, festival, modern and folk songs. It is commonly used as melodic accompaniment for taiko and odori (dance) music.

Class is taught by the energetic and ever-smiling Kristy Oshiro. Kristy has been playing taiko since she was a kid in Hawai'i. She received a BA in music performance in percussion from Portland State University. Kristy has toured and performed with Portland Taiko, Shidara, Tiffany Tamaribuchi, and Taikoza.

Information
This 4 week course costs $35 a week or $120 a month. Practice flutes can be bought or borrowed for free during class. If you already have a shinobue, bring your favorite 8-hon (and if you don't know what that means, come to class and learn).

Class is held at the Alonzo King Studio (5th floor) at 26 7th St, San Francisco. It is just a few feet away from the Civic Center Bart/Muni station.
