Asia's First CID-Unesco World Dance Congress held in Tokyo, Japan

It has been our longtime goal to establish a CID section in Japan which boasts the quality of dancers and highlights active dance scenes. The idea of a new branch in Japan materialized after my encounter with Erika Akoh, a choreographer, educator, dancer, and Director of Erika Akoh Global Dance Theatre.

It was about 20 years ago that I saw the dance and choreography work of Erika. She was among the few dancers who could combine both tragic and theatrical elements of a dance story to personify her dance role. Since then, it has been my desire that she would represent Japanese dancers and build a strong bridge of peace between the world and Japan through dance. I'm sure that Erika would play an important role in assisting Japanese dancers to expand their horizons at global levels. I am happy that the Tokyo section was launched with the help of Erika and would like all of the dancers, choreographers, teachers, and researchers in Japan to support her and the CID-UNESCO section in Tokyo, Japan.

Devastated by the earthquake in March 2011, Japan has been under reconstruction and recovering from the loss that many people suffered. It would be a great encouragement for people to see the growth of a new organization. CID Tokyo will surely create and add value to the society.

The new Tokyo CID section is preparing for the "CID-UNESCO World Dance Congress 2014" which will be held in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture from October 23rd-27th, 2014. This will be a milestone event as the World Congress comes together for the first time in Asia. I believe Erika's power and "Ki" will achieve great success during Tokyo's 2014 CID Congress.
