Program Highlights

Resilience & Recovery Theme:
This year's event focuses on the theme of "Resilience & Recovery," shedding light on the remarkable work of Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (HAPI). HAPI, organizers of the Humboldt Obon Festivals, has been instrumental in bringing together local and Bay Area communities through the Japanese Buddhist custom of Obon, honoring the spirits of ancestors.

Cultural Performances
Humboldt Taiko: Experience the mesmerizing beats of Taiko drumming.
Bon Odori: Engage in free dance lessons and participate in the joyous Bon Dancing.

Panel Discussion
A thought-provoking panel discussion featuring local Japanese American community members will be facilitated by Sociology Professor Michihiro Clark Sugata. Delve into conversations about resilience, community, and the ongoing pursuit of civil liberties and human rights.

Snacks and Community Connection
Enjoy snacks provided by the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI) while fostering connections with fellow attendees.
