To mark the November 2023 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Meeting in San Francisco, the United Nations Association of San Francisco, the Japan Society of Northern California, and the Japantown Cultural District present a special screening of “Paper Lanterns," a 2016 documentary directed by Barry Frechette and produced by Nobuko Saito Cleary about atomic bomb survivor Shigeaki Mori and his lifelong mission to track down the families of the 12 American prisoners of war who were among the estimated 140,000 people who died in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Following the film screening will be a discussion with Director Barry Frechette and Producer Nobuko Saito Cleary.

The event will be held at the historic Herbst Theater where the UN Charter was signed in 1945, inside the War Memorial Veteran building, 401 Van Ness Avenue, across from San Francisco City Hall.
