Do you know Shochu?
Shochu is a distilled spirit like whiskey, brandy, and vodka, and was first made around in the 16th century in Japan. Shochu is made from grains and tubers, carefully fermented utilizing Koji, and distilled in Japan.

Shochu is one of two “Koku-Shu (國')”, or traditional Japanese alcoholic beverages--the other is sake (Nihon-Shu).

The unique climate and Japanese culture greatly influenced the development of the Shochu.

What is Honkaku Shochu?
Honkaku Shochu refers to “single-distilled Shochu.” The traditional single distillation method preserves the vibrant and rich flavors of the ingredient(s) from which the Shochu is made.

There is another Shochu in Japan, called Ko-Class Shochu or Continuous Distillation Shochu.

The Flavor of Shochu
Shochu has various flavors derived from its ingredients such as a sweet potato, rice, barley, buckwheat, Black Sugar, and more. These are grown in Japan’s rich and varied climate.

What is AMAMI KOKUTO SHOCHU?
AMAMI KOKUTO SHOCHU, “black sugar distilled spirit,” is produced only in the Amami Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Only the Shochu makers in the Amami Islands are permitted to use the black sugar grown in the Amami Islands as a main ingredient to make KOKUTO SHOCHU.

The black sugar is one of the special products from the Amami Islands, a natural food which is high in nutrients. It has the condensed essential nutrition for the body without losing the original minerals and vitamins of sugarcane during refining.

AMAMI KOKUTO SHOCHU gently spreads sweetness with a gentle aftertaste like a fruit.

What is characteristics of SHOCHU?
Shochu is a sugar-free liquor like other distilled spirits such as brandy and whiskey but has fewer calories.

Shochu contains Vitamin B1, B2, minerals, iron and potassium, which are beneficial for women.
