Interested in learning more about Japanese Noh theatre? Join us for a free class focusing on a video screening of a classic Noh play, "The Ghost of Atsumori"! This is a rare opportunity to learn more about this mysterious and moving art form.

Based on a famous episode from "The Tale of the Heike," the central figure of the play is Atsumori, a beautiful youth who was felled by the enemy warrior Kumagai at the famous battle of Ichi-no-tani. Full of remorse, Kumagai later encounters Atsumori's mournful ghost when he returns to the battlefield to pray for his soul. You will also be introduced to the Noh hayashi orchestra.

The class is part of a series presenting four classic Noh plays that inspired "This Lingering Life," a new play by Chiori Miyagawa scheduled to premiere at San Francisco's Z Space in June. For more information about the series, visit:http://www.theatreofyugen.org/?spec=137
