Japan's 11 March 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdowns are among a series of recent disasters affecting urban environments around the world which have created new challenges to the professions of architecture and engineering. Professionals from Japan and California will discuss the opportunities that have arisen from these events, from changes in planning practices to engineering innovations. Speakers at this day-long symposium include Hitsohi Abe, Mary Comerio, Kazuhiro Kasai, George Kurumado, Steve Mahin, Norio Maki, David Mar and Susan Ubbelohde.
