Film "Pray for Japan" to bring real stories of tsunami disaster, Aug 18 at 4:00 pm

A documentary film about March 11, 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster will be screened at Aratani / Japan America Theatre in Little Tokyo on Saturday, Aug 18 at 4:00 pm.

One screening only.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children.

Film "Pray for Japan" is depicting the aftermath in the devastated region of Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture - the largest coastal city in Tohoku with a population of over 160,000 people.

The team that worked on "Pray for Japan" consisted of all volunteers, from Director/Producer Stu Levy on down. Just as volunteers from all over the world converged on Tohoku to render aid, a diverse group of film industry professionals assembled to work on the film.

From its origins in Levy's original volunteer work in Ishinomaki on March 14, 2011, just three days after the March 11 earthquake, the film team captured over 50 hours footage in Ishinomaki, Sendai, Higashi-Matsushima and Kessensuma over a period of 6 weeks.

"Pray for Japan" focuses on four key perspectives of the tragedy - School, Shelter, Family, and Volunteers.

With each perspective the film team met victims who faced significant obstacles and fought to overcome them.

Through these four vantage points, the audience is able to understand the vast ramifications of this large-scale natural disaster - and the battle these real-life heroes fought on behalf of their loved ones and their hometown.
