HIROSHIMA makes it's only Bay Area appearance at Yoshi's Oakland for six performances only, Sunday, August 17 through 19, 2012.  Two shows nightly - Friday (17) and Saturday (18) 8pm and 10pm and Sunday (19) 6pm and 8pm.

Vibrant, eclctic and truly original, the 2010 Grammy-nominated HIROSHIMA creates a musical world all its own featuring the luscious sound of June Kuramoto's koto, the thunder of taiko, and the interwoven fabrics of Jazz, Japan, and Salsa and much more . . .

HIROSHIMA performs songs from their latest CD "Departure," their follow-up to their 2010 Grammy nominated "Legacy" CD.  Highlights include "Have You Ever Wondered," a luscious textured piece featuring June and Tetsuya Nakamura; the jazzy funk of "Koto Cruise, the moving "Blues For Sendai" a heart for Japan, and the rockin' blues in "Smiling Jack" – the college radio hit!

We have created a new show for this year that is pretty different, using a couple of songs from our OBON CD and at least 5 songs from DEPARTURE.  So far the audience response has been great-but we'll keep workin' on it--we want you all to have a show to remember, continued Kuramoto.

It's been interesting doing a follow-up to "LEGACY," continued Kuramoto, Instead of trying to 'top' our last Grammy-nominated CD, with "DEPARTURE" we decided to use it to chart a new direction.

Considering there are NO record stores, we have to rely on internet sales and word of mouth.  In spite of this, the CD is actually doing surprisingly well, and Tower Records Japan (they still have a few stores) has been stocking it!  We are now adding stores that will sell our CD's inHawaiiand hope to do so in various cities on the Mainland as well.
