Japanese cultural events will include: Origami, Dragon & Heirloom Doll Exhibit, Story Telling
Kimono Fashion Show, Japanese Dance Performances

Kimono or happi coats are optional but encouraged.

PLEASE NOTE: If attendees exceed the maximum capacity of 200 visitors, the Garden may temporarily close, until space is available.

Comfortable, walking shoes are encouraged.

Admission fee
$5, Refreshments $2 extra.

10:15 am - 3:15 pm
DOLL EXHIBIT - Exhibitors from Serizawa Dollmaking class will explain the creation of their dolls, including lion dancers and dragon dolls.
The history of dolls date back three millennia. In the last few years the dolls have taken on a wide variety of forms and purposes, such as dolls for adults to admire as well as dolls for children to play with.

10:15 am - 3:15 pm
ORIGAMI -Origami is a Japanese word that means "fold paper." Instruction and paper will be provided.

11:00 am - 3:00 pm
KAMISHIBAI - Kamishibai is a Japanese word that means "paper drama." The story teller narrates the folk tale while using illustrated story boards to draw the audience into the plot.

11:00 am - 12:00 pm
KIMONO FASHION SHOW - Presented by Fumi Akutagawa, kimono designed for men, women and
children will be modeled. Audience participation also will be included. Garden visitors are encouraged to wear kimono or happi coats.

3:00 pm - 3:30 pm
JAPANESE DANCE PERFORMANCES - Fujima Seiyumi Kai will perform classical (whiteface), folk and contemporary Japanese dances.
