The 100th anniversary Indianapolis 500 had thrilling storylines from green flag to checkered.
Dan Wheldon was the driver who drank/poured the milk in Victory Circle. Wheldon overtook the crippled car of rookie JR Hildebrand a few hundred yards from the stats/finish line to win the 500 Mile Race for the second time. Hildebrand, the race leader, made contact with the outside retaining wall exiting Turn 4 of the final lap as he was attempting to pass lapped traffic. He still finished second as the car slid across the line, and he was voted the Chase Rookie of the Year. Box score
