The City of Gardena Department of Recreation and Human Services offers sports programming throughout the year. For youth and adult sports such as gymnastics, Tai Chi, tennis, golf, football, softball and basketball, please contact Sports Supervisor James 'JK' Kimmons at the Recreation Division office at (310) 217-9537.

Special sports programs are also offered at various times of the years and include gate ball, the Gardena 5000 Fun Run and swimming. For information on these and other programs, please call (310) 217-9537.

Youth sports include Tiny Hot Shots programs for children ages 5-8 giving them instruction in sports fundamentals an how to have fun and work as a team. For older youth structured programming is offered in soccer, flag football, junior golf, basketball, baseball, softball and track. The Youth Sports Advisory board provides support and awards programs for participants, coaches and volunteers.

Adult sports programs provide league play in such sports as basketball, softball, volleyball and flag football. An exercise and lap-walking program for seniors is held daily in the Rush Gymnasium. Classes are given in tennis, martial arts and aerobics.

Monthly golf tournaments are conducted by the Gardena Royal & Ancient Golf Association. Also, the City has conducted an annual Palm Sprints Golf Tournament each June for over 40 years.
