The mission of the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is to promote understanding and appreciation of America's ethnic and cultural diversity by sharing the Japanese American experience.

Current Renovation Update (2025-2026)
JANM’s Pavilion is currently closed for major renovations as part of a transformative expansion project. The museum is expected to fully reopen in late 2026, featuring a new core exhibition: In the Future We Call Now: Realities of Racism, Dreams of Democracy.

During the renovation, exhibits inside the Pavilion are not accessible, but JANM continues to operate select programs, community outreach, and limited off-site exhibitions.
Special events like Nisei Week and the Natsumatsuri Family Festival may include outdoor programming and activities around the museum campus while indoor access remains limited.
