Makoto Taiko invites you to join us as we honor our sensei Koji Nakamura and celebrate his 40 years of playing taiko at our annual concert on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Aratani Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

Aptly themed “Legacy,” the concert will recognize Koji’s guiding spirit and his many years of leadership with Makoto Taiko. It is sure to be a very special evening for everyone!

It is because of Koji’s unwavering efforts and belief in Makoto Taiko that we have a strong foundation to build upon today. But to continue our growth, we ask for your support.

Purchasing concert tickets to what will be an evening of exciting and uplifting music is one way you can show your support. Joining the members of Makoto Taiko on stage will be Grammy Award-nominated musician, composer, and producer Shoji Kameda; Grammy Award winner and koto artist Yukiko Matsuyama; Nihon Buyo dancer Hidesomi Bando; and former Makoto Taiko members Blaine O’Brien, a taiko professional performer and teacher, and Aki Imai, member of the professional performing taiko ensemble, Unit One. An early bird discount of 20% is available in the month of April.

You can also support our efforts by becoming a concert sponsor or purchasing an advertisement in our concert program. The inclusion of your name or company in our concert program will provide you with valuable exposure while demonstrating to the community your commitment to the Makoto Taiko legacy. Additionally, please consider making a donation. Any amount will help us continue our concert tradition, expand our curriculum to welcome new students, purchase and maintain our drums, share taiko with new audiences, and further our mission to connect and empower people of all backgrounds by advancing the practice of taiko with intention and sincerity. You can also honor Koji Nakamura by contributing to the "Koji Nakamura Fund for the Purchase of an Odaiko".

“Legacy” will be a joyful, musical, and memorable event not to be missed. Help celebrate the continuing legacy of Koji sensei and Makoto Taiko by donating, sponsoring, or buying tickets today!
