Combining Portland’s love of handmade art and craftsmanship with Japanese culture, Shokunin: Five Leading Artisans From Kyoto brings some of Kyoto’s finest artisans to the Portland Japanese Garden to showcase their work in lacquer, ceramics, wood, and bamboo. It’s the Year of Kyoto at the Portland Japanese Garden and shitsurai is the seasonal arrangement of objects creating a harmonious environment which includes the Garden itself. In a hectic world, take time to enjoy the slow art of hand-crafted objects with the Garden as a visual backdrop.
