Venice Hongwanji Obon Festival Event (VHBT) - Obon or 'Festival of the Dead' is celebrated in Japanese-American communities all over the country in the middle of July or August. In America, Obon has become a key event festival for both the Buddhist temples and the local community, as well as a celebration of the rich Japanese-American cultural heritage. Obon features bon odori folk dancing, games, and lots of food.

Special Udon
This special udon being served at the Venice Obon Festival, curated by George Asawa and the Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple community, holds cultural significance and serves as a cherished tradition. Joe Belli involvement in the preparation of this udon dish (dashi) showcases his dedication to preserving and sharing Japanese culinary heritage. The udon represents a culinary symbol of the festival, bringing people together to celebrate and honor ancestors while fostering a sense of unity and cultural pride through the generations.
