Saint Patrick's Day is not a national holiday in Japan, but it is nevertheless celebrated by many Japanese people. There are numerous events and festivals held throughout the country, particularly in Tokyo and other major cities. One of the most popular Saint Patricks Day celebrations is Shimokitazawa Parade, which takes place in Tokyo's hipster district of Shimokitazawa. The parade features a full-scale parade of floats, Irish music, and plenty of other activities to celebrate the occasion. Additionally, many restaurants around Japan will offer special Saint Patrick's Day menus featuring traditional Irish cuisine such as corned beef, potatoes and Guinness beer. Furthermore, some bars may even serve green cocktails in honor of the special day. To top it off, many Japanese businesses will offer "Irish coupons", which are discounts or free items to customers who show their Irish spirit.

In the United States, Saint Patrick's Day event is a religious holiday celebrated internationally on 17 March. Saint Patrick's Day was made an official feast day in the early 17th century, and has gradually become a secular celebration of Irish culture in general.

Wearing of the Green
Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century. He is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day. In the 1798 rebellion, in hopes of making a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching public attention. The phrase "the wearing of the green", meaning to wear a shamrock on one's clothing, derives from a song of the same name.
