It was rough being from the mainland and spending the summers on Oahu. My relatives were always teasing us about how funny we talked. Growing up as a 'ko-tonk' wasn't easy, but I felt fortunate that I got to eat delicious Hawaiian food. I have fond memories of chasing the manapua truck through Waipahu, eating crackseed from Gems and of course, Zippy's Chili.

The best of times were spent with my cousins at the beach in Punaluu. The view from the Loft at the beach house still brings a smile and reminds me of saimin at midnight, gambling with Auntie, picking ogo with Mom and Dad at Ewa, watching 'Kikaida' on t.v., and listening to Kalapana.

I've always dreamt of owning a restaurant and when the time came, I thought back to the days of Punaluu. My hope is to bring the flavors, the flowers, and the feel (minus the mosquitoes) of those summer nights in Hawaii to the mainland.

We hope you enjoy our food—a little Hawaii and a little California blending the best of both worlds.

Mahalo and enjoy . . .
Tad
