Begin the New Year with a meaningful Japanese tradition through Kakizome, the first calligraphy of the year. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn to write the kanji for “horse” (uma), the zodiac symbol of 2026, and create a personal piece of artwork that reflects intention, creativity, and renewal for the year ahead.

Details
• Learn the traditional Japanese New Year practice of Kakizome (first calligraphy of the year)
• Write the kanji character for “horse” (uma), the 2026 zodiac animal
• Guided instruction by Japanese calligrapher Kuniharu Yoshida
• Instruction includes proper posture, brush handling, stroke order, and multiple calligraphy styles
• Create your own finished calligraphy artwork to take home
• All tools and materials are provided
• No language or calligraphy experience required
• Limited to 20 participants, ages 18 and older
• Calligraphy ink does not wash out easily; casual clothing recommended
