Mendocino Obon Festival: A True Japanese Summer Festival in an Enchanting Coastal Village
Celebrate the spirit of Obon in the heart of Mendocino-where Japanese culture meets coastal beauty. Since the 1960s, Mendocino has nurtured a deep connection with Japan through its Sister Cities relationship with Omachi-Miasa. The Mendocino Obon Festival honors that legacy by bringing the community together for a day of remembrance, cultural celebration, and joyful connection.

Obon is a time to welcome the spirits of ancestors and departed loved ones back home, to celebrate their presence with family and community. At the heart of the event is Bon Odori, a circle dance open to everyone-an expression of gratitude, memory, and love passed on from generation to generation.

This annual festival offers guests of all ages an authentic Japanese summer experience, filled with traditional music, food, art, and cultural demonstrations-all surrounded by the charm of the Northern California coast.
