Japantown Oshogatsu Matsuri - New Year’s Festival Event Celebration To Welcome The Year Of The Dragon. 

Join us in welcoming 2024, the year of the dragon, at our annual Oshogatsu Matsuri! Co-hosted with the Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC), API Legal Outreach, and the Hamilton Senior Center, we are excited to present an afternoon filled with cultural arts, crafts, food, and fun! Come with family and friends to enjoy shikishi art, *screen printing, our children’s art contest, a mochitsuki (rice pounding) demonstration, food for sale, and much more! We are excited to ring in the new year with everyone and encourage all to join us for this free community celebration!

Festival Schedule
• Bring a plain, light-colored t-shirt and Japantown artists will silkscreen print a Year of the Dragon design on it for free!

Join us in welcoming 2023, the year of the tiger, at our annual Oshogatsu Matsuri! This year, the festival will be both indoors and outdoors and will include free cultural arts and crafts activities-shikishi art, screen printing, children’s art contest-a mochitsuki (Japanese rice pounding) demonstration, food for sale, and much more! We are very excited to see everyone in person and encourage all to participate in this free community event.

To ensure the safety of all in attendance, the following COVID-19 protocols have been put into place:
*All attendees must be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination
*If ineligible to be vaccinated (children 5 and under), must show proof of negative COVID test within 24 hours
*Masks are to be worn at all times

Children’s Art Contest
Theme: Year of the Tiger

Ages: Preschool - 5th grade
Medium: Entry must be on 8.5″x11″ paper
Please include 1) printed full name 2) age/grade 3) school on the back of entry

Our children’s art contest will highlight the artistic interpretations of the “year of the tiger” by our community’s little ones and the winner will be announced along with their art displayed at the Oshogatsu Matsuri. The deadline to submit entries is Monday, January 2, 2022. Please submit entries to:

Oshogatsu Matsuri Participation:

We are seeking community groups to:
1) Provide arts and crafts activities or games for grade school children (New Year themes are appreciated)
2) Exhibit art work appropriate for the New Year
3) Provide an information table on subject matter of interest to the community
