June 15 2016, Latest News: Yamashiro restaurant reopens with new operators.

After 50 wonderful years, the family owned Yamashiro Restaurant will soon be closing its doors. The Glover family - including Tom Glover, his wife Jane, and their sons Carlos and Andre Ulloa - would love the opportunity to welcome you to visit Yamashiro before the doors are closed forever.

The entire property on which Yamashiro Restaurant rests has been purchased by a Chinese group that has yet to reveal plans for the property. Yamashiro Restaurant's final days could come as soon as June 2016.

Yamashiro Restaurant was the inspiration of Tom Glover and has delighted visitors from all over the world with its spectacular view, Japanese temple architecture, garden setting, and exceptional food and libations. The romantic setting has stimulated innumerable engagements, weddings, anniversaries, and other special events.

Originally a private home built in 1914, the Glover family purchased the dilapidated property 68 years ago and restored much of it before opening Yamashiro, first as a cocktail lounge and then a restaurant. Since opening, it has become world famous as one of the most unique, romantic, and landmark restaurants in Hollywood and throughout the world. The restaurant has been featured in many films, and TV productions over the decades including such epics as Sayonara, I Spy, Gone in 60 Seconds, and Memoirs of a Geisha. It has hosted practically every A-list celebrity over the half century of its operation.

To honor its fabulous history, Yamashiro is inviting all of those touched by this historic mountain palace atop Hollywood to post their favorite Yamashiro moments to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter with the hashtag #CelebrateYamashiro. The Glover family is encouraging people to include comments and pictures about their Yamashiro memories.

"It has been a labor of love for us to have the honor of shepherding this wonderful, unique property and offering it to the public for impacting, memorable experiences," says Tom Glover. "The 100 loyal employees, some of whom have been here as long as 45 years, have become our family. Yamashiro is in our souls, and we are forever grateful for her gifts to us and the years we have been blessed to be a part of her."

History of Yamashiro
