Sarah P. Duke Gardens is a stunning botanical garden located on the campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Spanning over 55 acres, it is renowned for its exquisite collection of plants, landscapes, and themed gardens that attract visitors from all over the world. The gardens are meticulously curated and offer a tranquil retreat from the bustling campus life, providing a serene environment for leisurely strolls, educational programs, and events.

One of the highlights of Sarah P. Duke Gardens is the Culberson Asiatic Arboretum, which showcases a diverse array of plants from Asia, including ornamental trees, shrubs, and perennials. Within this section, visitors can also find a Japanese garden inspired by traditional Japanese design principles. This garden features elements such as carefully crafted pathways, water features, and carefully pruned trees, creating a serene atmosphere reminiscent of Japanese landscape aesthetics.

Additionally, Sarah P. Duke Gardens is home to the Charlotte Brody Discovery Garden, a space dedicated to promoting sustainable gardening practices and environmental education. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits, learn about native plants, and discover ways to incorporate eco-friendly techniques into their own gardens.

Throughout the year, the gardens host various events and activities, including plant sales, workshops, and guided tours, providing opportunities for visitors to deepen their appreciation for horticulture and conservation. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a gardening aficionado, or simply seeking a peaceful escape, Sarah P. Duke Gardens offers a captivating experience amidst the beauty of nature, right on the Duke University campus.

About Durham-Toyama Sister Cities Pavilion and Garden
This small, refined garden pavilion functions as a venue for chanoyu, the preparation and service of Japanese tea in a traditional manner. Duke Gardens’ intimate Japanese Tea Gatherings are very popular with visitors seeking to know more about Japanese culture. Please see our programs page to get to the latest seasonal programs, including teas. You may also visit the pavilion from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, except during special events. There are no refreshments served at the tea house except during the Tea Gatherings. Please see UNC-TV's 'One Moment, One Meeting' to learn more about our Japanese Tea Gatherings.
