Welcome to The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden & Museum, home to the largest collection of American sculptor Charles Umlauf’s work. The Museum and Garden welcome visitors, educators, artists, and friends from all over the world. The UMLAUF exhibits the work of Charles Umlauf and other contemporary sculptors in a natural setting and provides educational experiences that encourage the understanding and appreciation of sculpture.

Charles and his wife Angeline lived on the property adjacent to this Museum, overlooking Barton Springs Road, Zilker Park, and Lady Bird Lake for decades. In 1985, they gifted their home, his art studio, and 168 sculptures to the City of Austin for public education and enjoyment. The Sculpture Garden and mid-century inspired Museum opened to the public in 1991 following a successful campaign led by Austin philanthropist Roberta Crenshaw.  The Garden design by landscape architect Aan Coleman and the Museum and terrace architecture by Lawrence Speck have won national awards.

Now with a new 100 year private/public operating agreement, the UMLAUF exemplifies the successful partnership between the UMLAUF and the City of Austin. Someday soon, and with your help, the original Sculpture Garden, Charles Umlauf’s studio, and the entire 8 acres will be open and accessible to everyone.

Thank you for visiting the UMLAUF and supporting the visual arts in Austin. We invite you to return often to explore and be inspired in this creative milieu in Austin.
