14th Street Playhouse, once a cornerstone of Atlanta’s arts and culture scene, was located in the heart of Midtown. The venue served as a hub for live theater, film screenings, and community events. With its intimate setting and strong local support, it became a favorite stage for emerging talent and experimental performances.

Originally operated by the Woodruff Arts Center, the playhouse featured three distinct performance spaces, allowing for a range of productions-from small indie showcases to full-length theatrical runs. It played a key role in nurturing local arts organizations, including the Atlanta Film Festival and several African-American theater groups.

Although the venue officially closed its doors years ago, its legacy remains strong in Atlanta’s arts community. Many of the artists and organizations it supported continue to thrive today, and the spirit of the playhouse lives on in the city’s independent arts venues.

Today, the building has transitioned into a space for commercial and film-related use. Yet, for many Atlantans, the 14th Street Playhouse will always be remembered as a creative beacon that once lit up the city’s cultural landscape.
