Interested in Japanese Kabuki theatre? Join us for a special class focusing on a video of the classic Kabuki play "The Transmission of the Calligraphy Secrets" (Hippou Denju).

To whom will the great calligraphy master Sugawara transmit the secrets of his craft? His favorite student Genzo? Or the conceited Mareyo, who will stop at nothing to sabotage Genzo's chances? Meanwhile, Sugawara finds himself squarely in the cross hairs of his court rival, the evil Fujiwara no Shihei.... (synopsis: http://www.kabuki21.com/hippo_denju.php

The play features an all-star cast in a celebrated act of one of Kabuki's most famous dramas, "Sugawara's Secrets of Calligraphy." (In Japanese with English translation.)

Class is free and open to the public. Feel free to bring snacks. All ages welcome!
