International House (I-House) is a multicultural residential 'living and learning' center of nearly 600 students and scholars from 70+ countries, including the U.S., who attend the University of California Berkeley. Its mission is to foster intercultural respect, understanding, lifelong friendships, and leadership skills to promote a more tolerant and peaceful world.

To promote this purpose, I-House features more than 100 annual programs, including lectures, films, and festivals with an international focus. In addition, we offer workshops on leadership and intercultural skills available to residents, campus, and the local community. These programs and trainings, which are held in our historic building adjacent to the UC Berkeley campus, address problems and offer solutions to global challenges in a changing world.

Founded in 1930 with a charitable gift from John D. Rockefeller, Jr., I-House is a non-profit organization with a remarkable history, and is part of a network of International Houses Worldwide.

I-House relies on philanthropic support from alumni, foundations, and corporate sponsors to provide room and board scholarships for students with financial need, preserve our historic home, and further its program offerings and trainings in service to its mission.

The I-House alumni network is more than 40,000 strong and includes Notable Alumni such as Nobel Prize winners, prominent political leaders, diplomats, scholars, and entrepreneurs.

We invite you to learn more about our history, our governing Board of Directors, new initiatives, and ways to participate and support our community.
