2018 - Annual Skid Row-Kyo Public Ondo / Little Tokyo Community Open House - Centenary (Music, Ondo Dance, Entertainment, Games)NEW

Little Tokyo Community Open House / Skid Row-Kyo Public Ondo, in the spirit of culture and community, FREE event, all welcome to attend.  Serving a “potluck style� lunch at 12:30 pm, no need to bring food just an appetite to share in fellowship and good times with community friends and neighbors. This is a “indoor� event so don’t worry about the summer heat.   However, we will have our 3rd Street Open Space available for those who wish to just “hang out� and watch the sights of Skid Row-Kyo.  FREE entertainment, games and contests will take place through out the event.  Entertainment includes Taiko (Japanese Drumming), Japanese Classical Dance, Japanese Minyo (Folk) Dance, “Open Mic�, free games with prizes for all ages and a public Ondo starting at 3:15 pm (2nd dance session at 4 pm.) The first dance session will include a “Ondo Cash Dance� where someone participating in the ondo has a opportunity to win a $100 cash prize. This event has taken place annually for the last 6 years.   This is “another chance to dance.� 

This FREE event is our way of thanking the community for all the support they provide to us and our missions at Centenary.  Skid Row-Kyo Mission:  Help us help others.  On the day of the Open House we are collecting bottled water for our neighbors of Skidrow.  On the day of the Open House drop off any size bottled water.  Bring a bottle, bring a case, all quantities greatly appreciated.  Packaged snack foods is another item that can be dropped off at the Open House and “shared� with our neighbors. Water and packaged snack foods will be directly distributed to our neighbors who call the sidewalks of Skidrow home.  Skid Row-kyo Mission - Non religious, non profit fellowship group based out of Centenary United Methodist Church in Little Tokyo (Downtown Los Angeles / DTLA.) "Skid Row-kyo" refers to the section of Downtown Los Angeles where the "Spirit and Culture" of Little Tokyo, the "Creativity, Imagination and Inspiration" of the Artist District and the "Compassion and Humanity" of Los Angeles's Skid Row District intersect bringing the three community's together in harmony, solidarity and unity.  Feel free to invite others.  See everyone on Sunday July 1^st  in the spirit of culture and community.  Limited pay parking at event location.

Skid Row-kyo is a home to Odori/Ondo Dancing, Japanese Minyo (folk) Dancing, Taiko Drumming, Karate Dojo, Japanese Tea Ceremony, The Little Tokyo Dance Club and a gathering place for Little Tokyo Community groups and organizations. Skid Row-kyo is a place where local Artists can show their work, Thespians can perform and local Musicians can share their music with the community. Skid Row-kyo is a place where brothers and sisters of this earth share with those less fortunate and those in despair living "homeless" in Skid Row. Life giving water and blankets/clothing collected and distributed to neighbors in need. Skid Row-kyo Mission bringing people together, promoting the arts and helping those in need driven by the spirit of culture and community.
