After 20 years of celebrating the traditions of Japan, the 21st annual Japan Festival is turning its gaze to the future. The free-to-public event will demonstrate "The Way (道) of Japan" in which past and future come together on April 12th - 13th at Hermann Park in Houston, Texas.
Visitors with a traditional streak will enjoy performance staples such as taiko drum and classical dance performances, or strolling through Hermann Park's Japanese Garden and taking part in an authentic tea ceremony.
Anime and manga fans will get the chance to shine in the festival's third annual cosplay contest, with the grand prize being free airfare to Japan. Martial arts enthusiasts will not want to miss the exciting addition of kyudo, Japanese archery, to the demonstration lineup, while younger festivalgoers will enjoy playing Japanese children's games such as Lottery and Goldfish Scooping.
In between all the games, performances, and contests, guests can shop for Japanese clothing, home goods, and pop culture merchandise, while refueling with authentic snacks like okonomiyake, takoyaki, curry, as well as local favorites like funnel cake and turkey legs.
