*** April 18, 2020 Update on Cancellation ***

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to worsen, we are committed to protecting the well-being of the community and have canceled the 2020 Cherry Blossom Festival and postponed the student delegation trip in June. The Cherry Blossom Festival is held to honor the relationship between Cupertino and Toyokawa and share Japanese culture with the community. It also serves as the fundraiser for our exchange programs. Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister Cities, Inc (CTSC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the relationship between the two cities. Our major programs are an annual student exchange in cooperation with CUSD and an adult cultural exchange every five years. Cupertino and Toyokawa have been sister cities since 1978. Since 1983, the student exchange has been held every year, with two exceptions. In 2001 the Toyokawa students canceled their trip to Cupertino, which would have been only two weeks after the 9/11 disaster. In 2011, Cupertino students postponed their trip to Toyokawa following the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami until a year later. These experiences established a precedent for handling unforeseen circumstances. The 2020 student delegation is intact and will continue to participate in a year-long program of learning Japanese culture and strengthening the bond with our sister city. The delegates will volunteer for the 2021 Cherry Blossom Festival and travel to Toyokawa in June 2021.

Special thanks to our sponsors and we're looking forward to seeing everyone at next year's Cherry Blossom Festival (April 24 - 25, 2021)!
